Fortumo user tells a story – golive.ee

by Fortumo
January 21st, 2009

Golive.ee is a free-time social network, what offers you to create your own homepage, communities, use forums, rate and comment other users and their photos, communicate with your friends and get new ones.

“I like the services that are offered by fortumo.com, because they help to start SMS-services quickly and simply for everybody. On my own site i am planning to add Fortumo´s mobile operator support for other countries, so that people from different places could use our services.”

How have you applied SMS-services?

The whole site is for free in general, but priced services enable to use the site conveniently. For example you can add advertisements, more friends into your friends list, have more photos on your profile. We use to have a competition, where you could give votes by sending messages. User just has to send a message with the right keyword and the credit will be transfered to the user´s golive.ee account what he/she can use or the user´s order will be activated. The best thing about SMS-services is that all the procedures happen instantly.

Where did the idea of using SMS-services come from?

The idea to create Golive came from the most successful social network site in Estonia. In the beginning people thought golive (old name dates-web.net) is the copy of the before reffered site, but very quickly it became for it´s content and opportunities even ideal enviroment than the competitor. Whereby there has been an infoleak that the competitor has added functionality after golive.ee.

Why did you decide to use SMS- services in your web business?

I started to use SMS-services cause everyone has a mobile phone and why not to use it in my business. Sending messages is easy and comfortableand users prefer it over bank transactions, what is rather time-consuming and unpleasant experience.

What has SMS-service additionally given you?

For the site it has given surplus value (trustworthiness, attractivity, convenience etc), for me a very postive experience with fortumo.com and additional knowleadge about sms gateway systems.

Ordering food via SMS – the german example :)

by Marino Bresciani
January 12th, 2009

Hi there,
I come back on the topic of ordering food from home via SMS. Although there are not many scenarios currently running, one of those is quite successfull and has a consolidated activities since already  3 years and more. Let’s have a look at the german food company TelePizza and its sms service. You will easy discover that, although the system is rather extended and works in the same way for all their networked pizza shops, it can be easily reproduced with simple tools and applied to a local busines ;)

So, how it works?

STEP 1 – First, the user has to register its mobile phone and home address – It can easily do so via internet, but also simply texting to the TelePizza shortcode its own home address right after the keyword ADDR

  • Example: ADDR Marino Bresciani Huettenstrasse 48, 40125 Duesseldorff
  • Reply (translated): Thank you, Marino. Your address (Huettenstrasse 48) has been registered.

STEP 2 – And after register, you just need to make up your choice. Easy easy, especially due their website but also to some nice flyer-based door-to-door campaign with all the weekly listing and the weekly specials. Give it a look here – how many choices? :P

And then, after you made your choice, it is time to order, simply by texting all the codes related to the items you would like to buy.  For example, if I want to order a chi

  • Example: TELE 418 74
  • Reply (translated): Thank you, Marino. The order will be delivered to Huettenstrasse 48. The cost of the order is EUR 9.20

Payment is done directly to the pizza-boy, while you will pay also for the SMS sent to the TelePizza number

This service was successfull due to a series of good points:

  • Good food at competitive price, even with a minimum order of 7.50 EUR
  • Food comes straight to your home without any delivery costs
  • The comfort of choosing calmly your favourite meal with the brochure
  • A wide choice of food, not only pizza, but also meat, pasta, salads, drinks and desserts

So, if you are a owner of a restaurant or foodplace which provides also delivery service, and you would like to expand your business, this is a business case to take as very good example ;)

Hello, everyone!

Sanket Jain

Sanket is originally from India. His hometown is Jaipur what is really close to New Delhi and a popular tourist attraction. As he is coming from a very warm place it’s quite challenging for him to stay in Estonia but as he says – it’s all fun. He has so far really enjoyed Estonia, Tartu and he hopes it’ll get better and better.. ;) Sanket’s moto of life is: work hard, party hard!

Hermo Soodla

Hermo is actually living ~75 km from Tartu in Leevi village, Põlvamaa. So, at the moment, he does everything to make it through the snowstorm and thick snow to come to Tartu, to little Fortumo’s office.
He describes himself as more of a quite and modest person, but when he says something he knows what he’s talking about.
Hermo is studying in Võrumaa’s vocational education center for IT in his last year. At the moment Hermo is an intern in Fortumo dealing with interesting front end stuff.
