Moipal is a virtual world with an online environment for customizing the player’s own virtual content. It’s a virtual hang-out place for teens and can be accessed on both mobile phones and on the computer browser. MoiPal was launched in the end of 2007 and now has almost 100,000 registered users.

“In MoiPal, you first create an avatar called the Pal. You can play fun games with the Pal, take care of the Pal and train the Pal skills in hobbies like gardening, karate and nordic walking. You can also send the Pal on missions into the Pal City, to adventure, explore new locations and meet other Pals. The Pals create a 24/7 running virtual world, where actions and events happen even when the users are asleep.”

How have you applied SMS-services?
MoiPal is free to play, but you have to earn credits to buy virtual goods like clothing for your Pal. Ironstar launched a premium user account, called MoiVIP, which users can purchase to access better clothing and they also receive more credits for being active in MoiPal. The premium account can be purchased via SMS.

Where did the idea of using SMS- services come from?

As it is the most prefered way to purchase something on the web and on mobile, it was very natural for us to go the premium SMS route.

Why did you decide to use SMS- services in your web business?

It’s the most easiest way. Fortumo has been a great partner in launching new SMS services very quickly.

What has SMS-service additionally given you?

The possibility to think about ways to make money in different ways.
